Anime for Older Kids September Meeting!
It's time for our September meeting and I have to admit I am very excited about this month's feature.  Our meeting will be held in the customary time of day and location. Unfortunately, Labor Day falls on the first Monday of September so we will have to hold this months meeting on Wednesday, September 5, 2007.

I am pleased to announce that this month we will be enjoying the Kazurou Inoue project Midori Days (Midori no Hibi).  Seiji Sawamura is the toughest student in his high school. His grades aren't very good because he fights more than he studies, but he tends to protect the weaker students from bullies. A few classmates idolize him; one (Midori Kasugano from a different school) shyly loves him from afar; but most are just afraid of him, which has made it impossible for him to find a girlfriend — until one morning when he wakes to find a miniature Midori attached to where his right hand used to be.  The resulting storyline is bizarre, light-hearted and undeniably original and creative.

Have a great Labor Day weekend.  I look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting!

AOK August meeting!!
It's time for another meeting of AOK and this month we have an alluring line-up.  Due to DBRL not being able to handle even the meager responsibility of reserving a room and AV equipment, we will be meeting this month in conference room C. (Gives a cocked eybrow to DBRL staff.)

This month we shall be watching some title with the true otaku in mind.  =)  We shall be watching episodes from the Kio Shimoku series Genshiken and also watching the Koji Kumeta project Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei, two titles with plenty to offer the hard-boiled anime fans among us.  See you there!!

Anime for Older Kids second July meeting!!
Hello everyone!! I am proud to announce that Anime for Older Kids will be holding its very first mid-month meeting. One of our members, Adam Hoffsette, has been generous enough to hold a meeting in their home this coming Saturday at 2:00pm. As it will be held in a more flexible environment than normal, the meeting may go on longer than the typical two hours. =) It is recommended that you bring any snacks or other refreshments with you. (This is not ruling out the possibility of an organized food delivery situation.)

This very special meeting will be held at:
2501 Woodberry Court, Columbia, MO 65203
Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 2:00pm
Google map linkage

I am excited to announce that we will be viewing the well-known and gorgeously animated 1995 Mamoru Oshii classic, Ghost in the Shell. However, due to the flexibility of our venue, there will be time to view other titles. Your diligent coordinator (that's me ;) will be bringing a few short titles and you are encouraged to do the same. (DVD format only, please.) I look forward to seeing everyone there!! =)

Anime for Older Kids July meeting!!
Hello, everyone!!  It's time to start spreading the word about our July meeting.  This months meeting will be held in our customary location at the normal time:

Daniel Boone Regional Library, 100 West Broadway, Columbia, Missouri, 65203
Conference Room A
Monday, July 2, 2007 at 7:00pm

This months feature will be the dark thriller, Blood: the Last Vampire.  This beautiful Hiroyuki Kitakubo project has a stark and somber feel, much more so than than the series spin-off, Blood+.  I look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting!!

And for our member and potential members with less flexible schedules, I have some good news!!  There has been some discussion of a possibility for a second meeting per month.  We should have more information at the June 2nd meeting and, of course, any developments will be posted here.  =)

6-23-07  UPDATE:  As one of our members has generously pointed out, Blood is a very short feature and we have two hours to enjoy our anime.  So, I am happy to announce that we will also be enjoying the Satoshi Urushihara classic, Plastic Little.  This fun ecchi romp will make a perfect counterpoint to our other feature.  See you all at the meeting!!  =)

Anime for Older Kids June meeting!!
Hey gang!!  In just two short weeks, we will be getting together again for more Anime for Older Kids!!  The meeting will be held the first Monday of the month, same place as usual:

Conference Room A
Monday, June 4, 2007 at 7:00pm

I look forward to seeing everyone there.  This month's feature will be the Keiichi Satou vehicle, Karas.  The art is stunning and the story line offers plenty of action.  Admission is free but seating is limited so RSVP ASAP by leaving a comment here.  =)

(Sad note for existing members:  DBRL will only allow a group to reserve a room once a month so, until we find a different venue, we're limited to one meeting a month.  I look forward to hearing ideas from our members.  =)

AOK May meeting!
Join us for the May meeting of Anime for Older Kids! (Formerly and loosely referred to as Columbia Anime Club. . .bleh)  I'm pleased to say that this months meeting should be lighter on the talking and heavier on the anime!  As those of you who came to the first meeting can see, we now have a new online location that should be a good fit for what everyone needs.  (Thank you for your patience, everyone.)

Time and place:
Daniel Boone Regional Library
100 West Broadway Conference Room A
Columbia, MO 65203
Monday, May 7, 2007 at 7:00pm

For those of who attended the first meeting, I was fortunate to get the 7:00pm meeting time I had hoped for this month.  Please notice it is a half an hour earlier than the April meeting so make adjustments accordingly.

Now to the good stuff!  =)  We will be finishing up the Kazuya Tsurumaki FLCL (Fooly Cooly) series with episode 3 through 6.  Feel free to bring snacks and friends.  See you there!
